Its a little different re: uniforms when they are working as opposed to what they wear when they are NOT working.
A more appropriate example would be baseball where all teams wear uniforms of their team when they are playing.
EACH team howwever has its own dress code re: such things as how they should dress when they are not playing;some teams like Yankees don't even permit long hair and/or facial hair.
The point is that in baseball the individual teams set the rules as they pay the salaries;this is how it should be in the NBA also.
To use your example, does McDonalds tell their employees what they can and cannot wear, how to appear in public,etc. when they are not working?
Again, trying to improve the image of the league by strict dress codes set by the League pales in importance and relativity when the officials are corrupt and the integrity of the game has been compromised.
