Don't be surprised if the Big East sends Oregon State's football program a nice thank-you gift this week.

That's because the conference is clearly the biggest BCS beneficiary of the Beavers' 33-31 upset of USC Saturday.

Because while Ohio State and Michigan continue to hold down the top two spots in the latest standings, West Virginia and Louisville filled the void left by the Trojans nicely, moving up to No. 3 and No. 5, respectively.
That means the winner of Thursday's showdown between the Mountaineers and the Cardinals should be well-positioned to earn a spot in the national title game opposite the winner of the Ohio State-Michigan game.
That is, assuming there are no Trojan-esque letdowns the rest of the way.
In between the two Big East representatives in the top 10 is No. 4 Florida, one of two SEC teams in the top six (Auburn is the other) and one of four among the top 13 teams.
USC fell to No. 8 after the stunning loss, one spot behind the team that beat it in last year's national title game, Texas.
Notre Dame and California filled out the rest of the top 10.
