First, I would like to discuss Re-buy and Add-on tournaments.
The question is as follows: Are they worth even playing? Seemingly, they go on forever based on what I mentioned above. I believe once your done, your done, and with that in mind, I am just wondering if they are lucrative or not? I usually play sit & goes 32$ +3$ with 10 on a table. Otherwise, I am at tournaments with anywhere from 100-1,000 players or more. However, I have never been in an add-on or re-buy. I'd rather see a person knocked out, stay out. Let me know. Thanks. |

Patience plays a big roll in these kinds of tournaments, if you have the patience and the money stack, than i would absolutly play in these games. The reason for patience is because you will have guys who take these options to add-on and/or Re-buy as much as they can. They build up that BANK like theres no tomarrow, and thats where you can cash in on extra chips. You play conservative and be very patient, its worth every penny. The reason why you need the money stack is because you will take some bad beats from guys who might question a call and then say,"fuk it i have a re-buy left" he calls and BOOM theres your bad beat, more often than not you are taking his chips, but you will be caught up in bad beats obviously in any game sooner or later. You add-on and re-buy smart, not like a maniac-dont use these options to descide on a call or a raise, you play your game, pick the right spots be patient. Once the add-on and re-buy time is over, now your playing a a regualr "FREEZE-Out" Tournament. Thats when your hands become alittle looser, play the A-9 or A-8 suited, out play your guys. The money is great in these types of games, there are times i play in a re-buy tourny and be the only one who doesn't re-buy, everyone else is in the tourny for 200$-800$, im in it for 200$ to win $10k-20k.. Odds are in your favor, now do i prefer this or a REGULAR tourny? I definitly would play a REGULAR tourny than add-on/re-buy, unless i have the time and bank roll... I do hate when i take out a guy, and he comes back in knocks me out and i dont have the money to buy back in. That drives me crazy!!
1) Is it worth it? yes, the money CAN BE GREAT! 2) Do i look for these types of games? No, im in it for the money, your not going to pay bills by trying to get lucky with al lthe re-buys goin on. 3) What game do i recommend? Cash-Game, you pick your hours, you leave when you want to leave. you can track your winnings easier and people are more protective of theere own money-Which means easier to read people. **i look at it this way, Re-buys/Add-on tournaments are like a BONUS game for the month. Ill play one or two game like these in the month maybe get lucky build my bankroll, but thats all. Look for the regualr tourny's and cash games.... Sit n Go's are also very nice, there quick cash. only a few tables, sometimes just one. I dont like them because the money isn't much. unless its a $500 10 person tourny but even that ur only winning 6x ur money the most. Theres usually a 1st and 2nd place...3k to 1st-- 2k to 2nd... Thats my look on this |

Topic: Avoiding being too conservative with your stack.
Let's say you are in a $200+15 buy-in tourney (no add-ins or re-buys) and you remain as one of the final 20; however, you played too conservatively and with too much patience-basically, you over-protected your stack. While other guys have 50K, 65K, etc., for example in chips, you have 10K. 2 Questions: #1 How can this situation be avoided from the start without having to worry about going out early and esentially wasting that buy-in? What hands would you play very aggressively? #2 With such a small stack compared to the other players that remian, what would be your next move? Look forward to hearing a response. Thanks! |

This is absolutly always a problem for me, i would play great poker, not lose a pot-but i was playing so conservative the people caught on and got away from there hands where i should of taken all there chips. So instead of doubleing up my Chip stack i would only be adding less than a quater to my stack. This is normally ok in a cash game, but in a tournament as the Blinds get bigger, your chip stack must also grow a certain amount of chips an hour.
To avoid getting into this situation it does not necessarily mean to play certain hands aggressive. But it does mean to change up ur game every once in awhile, show a bluff. Let them know your not fucking around, and not the uptight prick they think you are. Its more important to pick the time to play a looser hand than usual. When you are in the dealer position and no raises LIMP in with 3-4 suited. or when you are in last postion, call that small raise with K-8,K-9,K-10,Q-9,Q-10 and so on. When you do something like that, and your known to be a tight ass at the table, well now that guy who raised u with AK,QQ,KK thinks your a monster now.. so when you flop 2 pair or a straight, he will have no idea. Your hand would be so disguised, when he tries to bluff you out,or jsut bet out thinking he is better than you, you capitalize on it, make sure you show him your hand if he folds. Dont show every hand but show the ones that count. Now lets say you do everything right but your chip stack is still very low in the tourny, and its comming down to the end top 20 players still in. Your short stacked, this is where people get alittle confused. you could be short stacked but still be very COMFORTABLE! dont get discouraged or nervouse that your in last. Take a look at the Blinds... If the blinds are reading 500-1000 with 200 antes, and you have 12K-15K in chips, relax for alittle bit pick the right hand, dont get crazzy and go all in with shit. Your there to win, I always say if have more than 10x the BIG blinds, your still comfortable and play your game!! say you have alittle less than 8K in chips and blinds are 500-1000. Than yes your next move is to go all in, dont bet minnimum dont bet 7K put it all in the middle. You want to go heads up with someone, if they see you raise 7000 and you have 8000 in chips left, they read your weak and now they call.. Flop comes and you completly miss, you cant check here, you cant fold here. Now you have to throw the last 1K in and PRAY that the 2 other callers have NOTHING. If you put all in shows your strong, and people will fold to you. |

Here is something detrimential to playing Poker strategically when not involved in a game where the buy-in or stakes are high.
It involves individuals calling with crap. It is because they don't respect the strategy you are using. Moreover, it is actually because they are not educated enough in poker to decifer your moves, tells, suddleties, etc. Therefore, when you raise, call, etc. whatever move you make you esentially expect a common result; however, the novice, doesn't catch on to this, and sometimes, they get lucky and take your take. Do you notice this? |

Everyone gets mad at these players who call with crap. I enjoy them, yes they wil lget lucky on you once in awhile, but you got to adjust your play when playing agaisnt them. you can never blame anyone but youself in poker. It is there money they can do anything they want. If there was a certain way to play poker, it would be a boring game. 1 outta 10 times you will lose to a player like this. But the 9 other times you are taking his money. Just play you game, adjust to your player. In my poker life these kind of guys became very profitable to me after i got over the bad beats.
